Announcement of containing the asbestos in products

Revised on November 18, 2005

Products containing asbestos placed on the market are as follows:

Products that used to contain asbestos

Product name: Flameproof 2-wire position transmitter
Model: VOS-E, VOS-ER

No other products contain asbestos.

Location of asbestos contained in the above products

Sealing packings of the wiring conduit

Production period of the relevant material

VOS-E and VOS-ER had contained asbestos since their first release, August 1991 until November 15, 2005 (shipment date).
However since November 16, 2005, we have changed into non asbestos materials for these products.
The color of the packings containing asbestos was black, while the new packings without asbestos are blue.

Content of asbestos

The packings have asbestos*(Chrysotile) content of 75%.

*Asbestos is a general name of fibrous silicate minerals and there are several types of asbestos: Amosite, Crocidolite, Chrysotile, etc. Amosite and Crocidolite were both banned to use in Japan in 1995 due to their high carcinogenic. Chrysotile, identified as having a relatively smaller risk, was not outlawed, however has been barred for most uses as building, friction and adhesive materials since October 2004 in Japan.

Instruction on handling

The asbestos contained in the packings of the products is mixed and solid with other materials such as rubber, and processed at the given size. Therefore, the asbestos is not released into air in general use. However in replacing packings, breakup or tearing the packing from the body parts may create asbestos dust. In replacing, it is recommended to wear a dust mask as well as to moisturize the environment.
